Meaning : The word 'Himachal' is from 'Hima' and 'Achala'. The meaning of Hima is Snow and meaning of Achala is mountains. Or Himachal is the 'Soul of snowy mountains.
Situtation (Geological) : Himachal Pradesh is bounded between 30degree22" to 33degree12" North latitude and 75degree47" to79degree40" East longitude. Total border length of Himachal Pradesh is 1179km. In the North, It is bounded by Jammu-Kashmir; In the South, it is bounded by Hariyana and Uttrakhand; In the East side, it is bounded by China and Tibbet ; in the West side, it is bounded by Punjab.
Make up of Himachal Pradesh : Make up of Himachal is 15th April, 1948 from 30 big and small states were done together. From 1948 to 1951 Himachal is Chief Commissioner. State formed in himachal pradesh 'C' state from 1951 to 1956. From 1956 to 1971 himachal pradesh was made a Union Territory. Finally on 25th January, 1971 it was granted the status of full state and 18th state of our country.
Area and Population : The total area of Himachal Pradesh is 55673sq km. This is 1.7% area of India. From area of vision, it is 18th position out of 29 states. From 2011 census, the total Population of Himachal Pradesh is 68,56,509 (0.57% of india population). Himachal is 22th ranked in population wise of our country.
Rivers in Himachal : Five rivers flow in Himachal Pradesh - Chinab, Ravi, Beas, Satluj, Yamuna. Satluj is longest river of himachal pradesh and Yamuna is shortest river of himachal pradesh. By water density or water retention Chinab is biggest river of himachal.
Districts of Himachal : 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh. Kangra is biggest district of himachal by population and Lahaul Spiti is biggest district by Areawise. By population density Hamirpur is biggest district.
