Transport, Traffic and Public Relations of Himachal Pradesh | Himachal Pariksha

In this article we are going to cover all Himachal Pradesh Transportation Like : Himachal Roadways, Bridges, National and State Highways, Railway Network, Airports and Helipads of Himachal, Post Offices, Traffic and Public Relations of Himachal Pradesh

1. Roads in Himachal Pradesh:

In 1948 total length of roads is nearly 288 km of Himachal. In 2007, this will be increased and nearly 30264 sq km. in himachal, in this 1967 km. roads are 9 National Highways. These roads connected nearly 7,867 villages of Himachal Pradesh. Kangra district has Maximum roads and Kinnaur has less number of  roads from Total length of Roads.
In Himachal, there have 20 State highway of 1625km, 45 district roads of 1753km.

HRTC (Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation) :

H.R.T.C. Constituted on 2 October, 1974. It was formed by mixing the Himachal Pradesh Transport and Mandi Kullu Transport. At present H.R.T.C. have more than 1700 buses.

Bridges in Himachal Pradesh : 

About 817 bridges are made on the roads of himachal pradesh, whose length is around 10,160 meters. Kandraur is highest bridge of Himachal. It is built in Bilaspur district on the Satluj river. Construction start in 1959 and fulfilled construct on 1964. The height of Kandraur bridge is 60 meter and length of this bridge is 255 meter. The yamuna bridge built on the yamuna river in Ponta Sahib is the longest bridge of the Himachal.

National Highways in Himachal Pradesh :

In Himachal there have 9 National Highway. Hindustan-Tibbet Road (NH-22) is longest National Highway of Himachal. This road built between 1840 to 1856. Manali - Leh Road (NH-21) is highest National Highway road of Himachal and India.

National Highways in Himachal : 

1) National Highway 22 : Ambala-Kalka-Shimla-Rampur-Kinnaur. The total length is 495 km.
2) National Highway 21 : Chandigarh-Kullu-Manali-Leh. (232 km).
3) National Highway 20 : Mandi to Pathankot (210 km). It made the National Highway on 17 Feb, 1989.
4) National Highway 72 : Ambala-Nahan-Ponta-Haridwar (50 km). It made the National Highway on 24 Sep, 1998.
5) National Highway 1A : Jalandhar-Jammu-Uri (Only 14 km).
6) National Highway 21A : Swaraghat-Nalagarh-Parwanoo-Barog Solan (65 km).
7) National Highway 70 : Mandi-Sarkaghat-Hamirpur-Amb-Gagret (Jalandhar to Mandi) 170 km.
8) National Highway 73A : Hariyana Border to Ponta Sahib. (20 Km).
9) National Highway 88 : Shimla to Kangra (via; Bilaspur, Hamirpur) 200 km.
Note : 7 more National Highway have been sanctioned in Himachal Pradesh.

2. Telecommunications & Public Relations : 

World's Highest Petrol Pump is in Kaja, Lahaul Spiti , which is situated at an height of 13,500 feet.
Kibber (Lahaul Spiti) is world's highest village, where is telecoms system. It is situated at an height of 15,00 feet. (From 22 July, 2000)
World's highest Post Office are situated in Hikkim(Lahaul Spiti). Height- 15,000 feet. (From 5 November, 1983)
India's first Automatic telephone centre was established at Shimla in 1913.
India's first Postal Life Insurance plan started in Mandi district, Himachal in 24 Mar, 1995.
India's first International Group Dialing Service started at Mehatpur-Santohgarh-Nangal-Una.

3. Railway Network of Himachal Pradesh :

Himachal Pradesh had a 209 km long railway line up to 1988, which has risen from 210 to 245 km. Himachal has mainly three Rail lines.
1) Kalka-Shimla Rail Line : This rail line is Narrow gauge (track width-0.76m). This rail line work started in 1891. On this train line the first train lasted in 1903. Length of this rail line is 96 km. It has 103 tunnels, In which Barog (Solan) is the longest tunnel (1143m). On 7th July it was declared as world heritage by UNESCO. H.S. Hariganton is the Chief Engineer.
2) Jogindernagar-Pathankot Rail Line : 113 km long Narrow gauge line is build construction started on 1926 and First train lasted in 1929. This train route has two tunnels and 900 bridge situated.
3) Nangal-Una Rail Line : The length of the board gauge rail road of himachal pradesh was first 16 km which is now increased to 33 km. It was inaugurated by railway minister jigneshwar mishr in 1991. Una Nangal Railway line is extended to Daulatpur Chauk, Una.
4) Bhanupalli-Bilaspur Rail Line : This Rail Line work has started.
5) Una - New Delhi Railway Line : this railway line connect Himachal to New Delhi (NCR).
6) Daulatpur Chauk to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh Via Chandigarh (Punjab).

4. Airports of Himachal Pradesh :  there are three airport :

1) Jubbarhatti (Shimla) : It has started being used since 24 May, 1987. (height-1546m)
2) Gaggal (Kangra) : It has started being used since 20 Dec, 1989. This is the Biggest Airport of himachal pradesh. (770 m).
3) Bhuntar (Kullu) : Height of this airport is 1089m. 

5. Helipads :

There is 57 helipad in the himachal pradesh from 2007. But in currently Now Himachal have 64 numbers of Helipads.

6. Post Offices in Himachal :

At present in Himachal Pradesh there is an office of the Director General of Post Offices which oversees the Suprintendents of Post Offices in the Head Post Offices and the Sub-Post Offices. Some of these post offices have telegraph offices attached to them. There are 18 head post offices, 444 sub post offices and 2315 branch post offices with 7629 letter boxes.
