1. Baba Kanshi Ram

Baba Kanshi Ram was born on July 11, 1882 in Dehra Gopipur of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. He was conferred the title of ‘Pahari Gandhi’ By pt. Jwahar Lal Nehru in 1937 A.D. in a Poltical meeting at Gadriawala. In 1927 A.D. at Daultpur chowk, Smt. Sarojini Naidu- the Nigtingale of India, gave him the title of ‘Pharan Da-Bulbul’. In Tal Conference (near Sujanpur Tira) of 1927 A.D., he took a pledge to wear black clothes until the India achieves freedom


2. Sh. Chanderdhar Sharma Guleri

Sh. Chanderdhar was born on July 7, 1883 in Jaipur in Rajasthan. He wrote an English book ‘Jaipur Observatory and its Builders’. His other famous literary works include ‘Usne Kaha Tha’, ‘Buddhu Ka Kanta’ & Sukhmaya Jeevan. He was an honoured court scholar in the state of eastwhile Rajputana (Now Rajasthan).

3. Bhai Hirda Ram

Bhai Hirda Ram was born in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh on Nov 28, 1885. Well Known as Bhaiji

4. Smt. Gauran Devi

Smt. Gauran was born in 1895 in Rawalpindi, H.P. In 1984 A.D., She was awarded Jamna Award for Community Service.

5. Sh Bhagmal Sautha

Sh. Bhagmal Sautha was born on Sep 23, 1899 in Jubbal of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. He was the founding member of the  ‘Himalayan Riyasti Praja Mandal’. On july 16, 1939, his arrest by the police near Ghanahatti led to the infamous Dhami Firing Tragedy.

6. Pt. Padam Dev

Pt. Padam Dev was born on Jan 26, 1901 in Bhamnol (Rohru) of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh. He was conferred the title of ‘kavira’ In 1946 Elected as General Secretary of the Himalayan Hill States Regional Council (estd in 1946). On Feb 18,1948 led the non-violent Suket Satyagraha against the Raja of Suket. Worked for the abolition of Reet (a type of marriage in which an already married women wants to leave her husband and marry another man), Begar and untouch ability. In 1952 A.D. elected to the first Vidhan Sabha on Congress party ticket and became first Home Minister of the State.

7. Sh. J.P. Baggi

Sh. J.P. Baggi was born on July 15, 1908 in Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. Imprisoned for 6 years (1928-1934)for involvement in Lahore Conspiracy Case.

8. Sh. Lal chand Prarthi

Sh. Lal Chand Prarthi was born on March 1916 in Naggar of Kullu District in Himachal Pradesh. He was most famous for his creation “Kullu Desh Ki Kahani

9. Satya Prakash Baggi

Satya Prakash Baggi was born on June 26, 1914 in Himachal Pradesh. He undertook 26 days hunger strike in Layalpur Jail.

10. Vaid Surat Ram Prakash

He was born on Oct. 22nd, 1918 in Habban of Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh. He was appointed as the Chief Minister of the Independent Govt. Setup on August 17th, 1947 in Theog dominion.

11. Sh. Yashpal Sharma

Sh. Yashpal sharma was born on December 3rd, 1903 in Bhumpal of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh. He was a revolutionary writer. His famous work Simhabalokan is an encyclopedia of his own experiences during freedom struggle.

12. Sh. Rishikesh Lath

Sh. Rishikesh Lath was born in Dhusada of Una district in Himachal Pradesh. In 1913 A.D. became founder member of Gadar Party founded at San Fransisco (U.S.A.) by Lala Hardyal.

13. Sh. Chatur Singh

Sh. Chatur Singh was born on 1909 in Anukalan (Bajuri) of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. In 1939 A.D. imprisoned under defence of India Act.

14. Deena Nath Aandhi

Deena Nath Aandhi was born on Nov 3rd, 1914 in Pragpur of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. He passed “Hindi Rattan” from the Lahore jail.

15. Sh. Gian Chand Tatu

Sh. Gian Chand Tatu was born on Sept. 15th, 1919 in Totu of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh. In July 1945 during his visit to Shimla Pt. J.L. Nehru stayed at the residence of G.C. Totu. In 1965, he became Industry and Hills Development Deputy Minister in the Himachal Pradesh State Council of Ministers.

16. Sh. Hari Chand

Sh. Hari Chand was born on Sept. 15, 1912 in Palampur of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. On January 26, 1945 he was exiled from Kohat district of Undivided India (Now in Pakistan) for unfluring National Flag.

17. Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan

Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan was born on December 23, 1889 in Tikka Nagrota of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. On January 4,1954 he became the first and only person from H.P. was serving as the Chief Justice of India. His autobiography is “Looking Back”.

18. Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar

Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was born on August 4, 1906 in Bhagthan of Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh. He was most famous and well known as “The Architect of Himachal”. On March 24, 1952 became first Chief Minister of H.P. Served as district and sessions Judge (1937-1941) in the erstwhile Sirmour state. On March 1, 1947 elected as the President of Himalayan Hill States Regional Council. He was the only Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh serving for longest time.

19. Sh. Ram Lal Thakur

Sh. Ram Lal Thakur was born on January 15th, 1929 in Barthata (Jubbal) of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh. In 1983, he was appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, where he dismissed the constitutional Govt. Of Sh. T.N. Rama Rao. He is the only person from H.P. to serve as both Chief Minister as Governor of a State.

20. Sh. Virbhadra Singh

Sh. Virbhadra Singh was born on June 23, 1934 in Sarahan of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh. 131st descendant of the princely state Bushahr. In 1962 he was conferred Honorary rank of Captain in the Indian Army. He became the Chief Minister of H.P. for maximum number of times.

21. Sh. Shanta Kumar

Sh. Shanta Kumar was born on Sept. 13th, 1934 in Garh Jamula of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. In 1977 he became the Chief Minister of the First Non-Congress Government in Himachal Pradesh. His famous literary works include Desh Bhakat Swami Vivekanand, Himalaya Par Lal Chhaya, Lajjo, Kaidi, Rajniti-Ki-Shatranj, Pahar Begane Nahin Honge, Dharti Hai Balidan Ki, Mrigtrishna, Man Ke Meet and O, Parvasi Meet Mere is joint collection of short stories and poems by him and his wife Smt. 22. Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal

Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal was born on April 10th, 1944 in Samirpur of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh. Served as Lecturer in English in the Doaba College Jallandhar. He became the Chief Minister of H.P.

23. Sh. Narain Chand Prashar

Sh. Narain Chand Prashar was born on July 2nd, 1935 in Firozpur of Punjab. He was the Education Minister of Himachal from 1993 to 1998 A.D.

24. Nicholas Roerich

Nicholas Roerich was born on October 9th, 1874 in St. Petersburg in Russia. He was well known as “Maharishi”. He had Painted 7000 canvas on Himalayas. Norah Richards was born on October 26th, 1876. She revered as the Great Grandmother of Punjabi Theatre. She worked for the promotion of Art and Culture in the Punjab Hills and settled in her woodlands retreat at Andhretta near Palampur of District Kangra. 26. Sardar Sobha Singh

Sardar Sobha Singh was born on November 29, 1901 in Har Govindpur in Punjab. He was the painter of one of the most popular love legends of Punjab-Sohni Mahiwal. Sardar Sobha Singh Art Gallery at Andhretta, District Kangra is devoted to him.

27. Amrita Sher - Gill

Amrita Sher - Gill was born on January 30, 1913 in Budapest, Hungry. She spent several years of her younger days at Summer Hill Shimla. In 1973, Siesta was the last picture she panted at Shimla.

28. Jamadar Lala Ram

Jamadar Lala Ram was born in Hamirpur District in Himachal Pradesh. He was the first person from Himachal Pradesh to receive the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth Forces. He was awarded for his courage and bravery during Word War 1.

29. Honorary Captain Bhandari Ram

Honorary Captain Bhandari Ram was born on July 24, 1919 in Pargna Gugeda of Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh. He was the second person from Himchal Pradesh to receive the Victoria Cross for his courage and bravery during world War 2.

30. Major Som Nath Sharma

Major Som Nath Sharma was born on January 31st, 1923 in Jammu. He belonged to Dhad village near Dharamshala district Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. He was the first recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (The Highest Wartime Gallantry Award of India).

31. Capt. Vikram Batra

Capt. Vikram Batra was born on Sept. 9, 1974 in Ghuggar of Palampur district in Himachal Pradesh. He was an officer of Indian Army. On August 15, 1999 posthumously Awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his actions during the 1999 Kargil War in Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

32. Havlidar Sanjay Kumar

Havlidar Sanjay Kumar was born on March 3rd, 1976 in Bakain of Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh. On August 15, 1999 Awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his actions during the 1999 Kargil War.

33. Kulbhushan Upamanyu

35. Dalip Singh Rana

Dalip Singh Rana was born on August 27, 1972 in Dwrana of Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh. He is popularly known as The Great Khali.

36. Sh. Indrapal

Sh. Indrapal was born in 1905 in Nadaun district in Himachal Pradesh. He was a revolutionary freedom fighter. He died of a heart attack when news came that Gandhi ji was shot dead on January 30, 1948.

37. Tenzin Gyatso (Dalai Lama)

Tenzin Gyatso (Dalai Lama) was born on July 6, 1935 in Taktser, Qinghai in Tibet. He is the 14th Dalai Lama. He fled from Tibet and entered India on March 30, 1959. He is the Head of the Tibetan Govt.-In-Exile at Dharamshala. In 1989 he was awarded Nobel Peace Prize. In 2006 he was confered Honorary Citizenship of Canada. In October 2007 he was awarded United States Congressional Gold Medal.

Ruskin Bond was born on May 19, 1934 in Kasauli of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh. He was an Indian Author of British descent. His famous Published works include “The Room on the Roof” (1st Novel), Vagrants in the Valley, The Flight of Pigeons & The Lamp is Lit.

39. Dicky Dolma

Dicky Dolma was born in Palchhan of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. On May 10th, 1993 she became the youngest girl in world to scale the Mount Everest - The Highest Mountain Peak in the World located in Nepal at 8848m.

40. Subedar Vijay Kumar

Subedar Vijay Kumar was born on August 19, 1985 in Harsour of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh. He is presently a serving as Subedar Major in the Dogra Regiment (16th Battalion) Indian Army. He on 2 gold medals at the 2006 Common Wealth Games, 3 gold and 1 silver medal at the 2010 Common Wealth Games, 1 Bronze medal each in 2006 & 2010 Asian games and 1 silver medal at 2012 London Olympics. He has also been conferred Arjuna Award in 2007 and Padam Shree Award in 2013.
